Canine Companions through Therapeutic Dog Massage."

How massage can help your Canine Companion

The benefits of Canine Massage on your dogs muscular system include, but are not limited to, the following:

     1. Increases the supply of blood/nutrients to muscles.

     2. Aids in elimination of wastes and toxins from the muscles.

     3. Helps reduce atrophy of the muscle due to inactivity, disuse, recovery.

     4. Relieves muscle tension

     5. Aids in elimination, prevention of muscular adhesions.

     6. Increases flexibility, function of the joints.

     7. Improves muscle tone

Each dog is an individual, therefore each massage is tailored to suit your dog's immediate and long term needs.

Activity levels, ages and conditions are all taken into account and treatments are adjusted to achieve optimum health for your pet.

Small injuries can manifest into something more sinister, it is important to treat the problem before this happens.

K9 Muscle Therapy applies Certified Canine Massage to your dog to overcome muscular injuries, increase range of motion, help to alleviate pain related to joint problems, relieve muscle aches and pains of elderly dogs, ease stress and anxiety in dogs and also help recovery in post-operative care and rehabilitation.

If you have ever had a massage yourself you will be aware of the benefits, the same applies for our canine companions.

Massage stimulates the skin to release endorphins into your dogs nervous system, the same chemicals which help you to relax during massage.

This helps to improve their blood circulation, which transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells and boosts the lymphatic system which in turn eliminates the body's waste products.

This also helps to promote a healthy glossy coat and skin by stimulating the sebum producing glands in the skin.

ABOUT

ME

I have been a dog lover since l was a little girl with a cross breed (German Shepherd/Great Dane) named ‘Thor’. He started my passion with Canines.

As an adult l bought my first German Shepherd Dog named 'Hercules'. My children were small and so he grew up as a beloved family pet.

Hercules' breeder talked me into showing him and so I became hooked on this amazing sport of showing dogs.

He ended up being an incredible athlete who went on to win many Gold Medals and Best In Show awards.

I have now been breeding for over 20 years including many specialist Gold Medal winners and Best In Show winners but above all the show accolades l have taken pride in the fact l have bred sound temperament and quality family pets.

It has always been my dream to work with Canines but l never found that particular area l wanted to work with them in until recently.

Last year one of my good friends, Rochelle Townsend, from Canine Healing Hands (Auckland), travelled to Chicago to train in Canine Massage Therapy.

l was not sure what Canine Massage entailed but asked Rochelle to travel down to Christchurch to treat our dogs. We train them as canine athletes but l had never considered massage as a treatment.

The difference I witnessed in our dogs and others after Rochelle worked on them was phenomenal. It lit such a spark inside me that l wanted to learn more about this therapy and so began my journey into Canine Massage.

I was extremely fortunate to be offered a one on one mentorship by a world renowned leader in the field of Canine Massage, Denise Theobald, owner of Chicago School of Canine Massage. I undertook an intensive advanced mentorship to allow me to learn the most in-depth and current techniques available.

Canine Massage is a highly under-rated treatment in New Zealand as it is still in its infancy here, as opposed to America where it is widely used in Veterinary Practices.

Canine Massage is a range of intricate techniques specified to cover a wide spectrum of applications.

Techniques range from Pre/Post Surgery, Trust Building, Anxiety and Behavioural Issues, Pre/Post Event Massage, Lymphatic Massage, Palliative Care, General Well Being and above all it will help your four legged friend live his/her best life.

TESTIMONIALS

Astro - Greyhound

Jo is just the most amazing woman with a wonderful talent for helping precious pooches. Our boy Astro was attacked by our neighbours dog and was absolutely petrified and riddled with anxiety as a result. From Jo's first visit where Astro was huddled upstairs in my bedroom shaking she got him to the point of being happy, relaxed.....and loving his massage.

Bear - Chihuahua

Bear was not a happy boy, he was so tense and he kept jumping as if something had pinched him. Jo came around to check if it was a muscle he had tweaked. I could not believe how different he felt when l picked him up after his treatment, he was not tense at all. He has not jumped or shown any pain since. I highly recommend Jo if your dog is showing any pain but you don't know why.

Also just to let you know if he did not improve, or Jo thought there was something more sinister going on she couldn't help with he would be at the vets.

Ruby - German Shepherd

Ruby suffered from a broken leg two years ago, she's such an adventurous dog that it didn't even slow her down, and she showed no signs of pain afterwards however had l noticed there was a dip just at the nap of her neck and her wither had flattened out. After taking her to Jo for a session she was a changed dog! Her topline was back to its beautiful shape and she had gained movement through her front reach! Turned out she was pretty bound up through her muscles from trying to compensate for the break in her leg. Thanks so much Jo, we will be making this a ritual to ensure the good health of our beautiful girl.
